Colin & Gill Foskett
Both Colin and Gill were from family business backgrounds, so hard work and long hours were no stranger to them. When the opportunity to buy an ailing frozen food business in Harlech came up in 1972, they jumped at the chance. Colins' brothers Fred and Stephen later also joined the company and working hard to build the business was paramount to them all.
Sadly Colin passed away in 2015 and Gill in early 2019. Their children Jonathan, Andrew and Laura, together with fellow directors and staff work hard to take the business forward and continue their legacy.
Colin Harry Foskett left school in 1960 and worked for his father in the grocery trade.
By 1972, realising the potential of the up-and-coming Frozen Foods market, he took a leap of faith and raised enough money to purchase a small struggling frozen food outlet in the coastal village of Harlech.
Together with his wife Gill, their two sons Jonathan and Andrew pictured left, and their daughter, Laura, the decision was made to move from their native Shropshire to North Wales. Harlech Frozen Foods was born.
As the business grew it soon became apparent that the company would outgrow it’s premises on the narrow high street in Harlech and when a plot of land at Y Ffor, near Pwllheli, came up for sale it was an opportunity to expand and build a depot to accommodate future growth.
The company traded from both sites for a few years but in 1990 the commercial decision was taken to close the Harlech site and operate solely out of the one depot at Y Ffor. For the next 20 years the company continued to grow and in 2010 the operation once again outgrew its premises at Y Ffor and moved to a purpose-built depot on the Food Park at Llanystumdwy, near Criccieth. The build brought with it huge operational efficiencies, cost savings and significant environmental benefits.
Today, almost 50 years on, Harlech Foodservice remains an independent, family owned and managed company with award winning customer service and commitment to excellence at the heart of its business.
The company employs over 200 full time members of staff, offers in excess of 10,000 product lines and distributes to customers throughout North & Mid Wales as well as the North West of England and West Midlands.
